Peace At last? Fulani Herdsmen Tells Buhari, 36 State Governors What To Do For Peace To Reign Amidst Bloodshed In The Land

A registered Fulani herdsmen group known as the Kullen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has told the President Muhammadu Buhari led- Federal Government and the 36 state governors to urgently render assistance to preserve existing grazing reserves and cattle routes from being blocked by local farmers for peace to reign in the land.

Khalil Mohammed Bello, the National President of the group stated this on Wednesday in Damaturu in a press release made available to the popular media platform  DAILY POST.

He stated that the group made the appeal because that it is only protection and development of grazing reserves and cattle routes for modern pastoral use that permanent peace and stability can take place between the herdsmen and farmers all over the country.

“Because, if grazing reserves and cattle routes are encroached or totally blocked by farmers or whoever else, more especially in the Northern parts of the Country, where they exist for several years, it would be very difficult for our animals to move freely on their way to reach water points or for grazing.

“As a result of which some time they entered into the farmers’ farms and destroyed crops which in many occasions led to the avoidable clashes or conflicts” He disclosed.

Bello stated that the group is a registered association with the aim of fostering peace and unity between the  cattle rearers and farmers.

“In this regard, if action is taken timely on the appeal under reference, intermittent or perennial conflicts between the two parties will be reduced minimally or even to an end in totally,” Bello stated.

The Federal Government says work will commence next week on cattle colonies in states that has indicated interest to establish them.

It will be recalled that in January 2018, the Federal Government stated that work will commence to establish cattle colonies in states that has officially  indicated interest to establish them.

Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated  this during an official visit to the Agriculture and Veterinary Complex of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The minister stated  that the National Economic Council already establish  up a 10-member committee which will be chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and nine governors to facilitate the implementation.

“One of the most topical issues we have today is that of farmers and herdsmen clashes. “If we do not deal with it quickly, we run the risk of damaging the harmony and the co-existence of Nigeria as a country. The killings are getting too many. “In our attempt to solve the problem, we have proffered certain solutions but perhaps we were not sensitive enough to Nigeria’s fragile sensitivities and suspicions.

“When we spoke of colonies, we were immediately greeted with reactions that this was an attempt to cease Nigeria’s land and give to the Fulanis to colonise. “The intention is not for Fulanis or anyone to colonise any territory. It is to provide a haven for cattle to graze in peace under controlled environments to prevent the conflicts between farmers and herdsmen.
