Austria recorded an all-time national high temperature of 41°C (105.8°F) on Tuesday as an intense summer heatwave continued to grip the country.
The record-breaking temperature was registered at a weather station in Vienna-Stammersdorf, according to national broadcaster ORF, citing data from GeoSphere Austria. Weather stations in several other regions across the country also recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) during the height of the day.
Meteorologists report that the ongoing heatwave is expected to peak over Tuesday and Wednesday, with forecasts indicating that temperatures could potentially climb even higher on Wednesday before cooler air masses move into the region.
In response to the extreme conditions, GeoSphere Austria issued its highest level weather alert—a red warning—covering Vienna, northern Burgenland, and northeastern Lower Austria. Public health and weather authorities have advised residents in the affected regions to take precautions against heat stress, remain hydrated, and limit unnecessary physical exertion during peak afternoon hours.
