Governor-Elect, Fintiri Gives Gov. Bindow Stern Warning As He Prepares To Handover Power

It is no longer news that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be taking over the control of the affairs in Adamawa State from the incumbent governor, who is from the All Progressives Congress (APC), come May 29.

PDP’s win in the state after the March 28th Supplementary election is symbolic considering that it is the home state of the Presidential candidate of the Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

As the countdown begins for the handing over of power to a new government, it is quite normal for accusation and counter accusations to trail the polity.

The Adamawa Governor-elect, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, has cautioned the outgoing Gov. Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow’s administration against what he described as “last minute employment and award of bogus contract.”

Fintiri had warned that last-minute looting, recruitment and award of contracts without compliance with due process would be reviewed by his administration, adding that any project commissioned at the last minute by the outgoing Jibrilla Bindow administration might not be honoured.

It looks like the warning given by Fintiri may have fallen on deaf ears considering that the State Government just announced a new influx of civil servants into the state civil service.

As disclosed by the Commissioner for Education in the State, Julius Kadala, the state government would soon issue employment letters to 1,540 new post- primary school teachers whose recruitment process was just concluded.

Kadala said his ministry had highlighted a manpower deficit of over 5,000 secondary schools teachers in the state but only got approval for 1,540 teachers because of the state government’s lean resources.

He said, “But employment letters for the 1,540 successful candidates who have been interviewed and screened out of 26,400 applicants will be given to them in a week’s time.”

Kadala also said he did not entertain any worry that the incoming administration which had warned against last-minute employment by the incumbent would cancel the employment of the new teachers.

“The employment of these new teachers cannot be categorised as last-minute employment because the selection process of the new teachers began in July 2018,” he said.

Kadala said it was his belief that the incoming administration would still employ more teachers because the manpower deficit could not be ignored.

The new employment may create another crisis within the state considering that Fintiri had already said that any last minute contract or employment may not be honoured by his administration, except the ones that follows due process.
