APC Stuns PDP, Wins In Another State As Election Results Emerge

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has recorded a landslide victory in fresh election conducted in another state.

Although, the APC is still having some legal tussles over its victory in Zamfara State for some other elections it won, it still proved its popularity in the state in the latest election where it won big.

The APC in Zamfara State has won all the 14 chairmanship and 147 councillorship positions in the local government council elections held last Saturday.

According to Daily Trust, Declaring the results in Gusau, the Chairman of the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Danburam, said the APC won all the seats contested for in the elections.

Danburam thanked all the stakeholders who helped in making the exercise successful. At least 42 political parties, including the ruling APC, participated in the exercise.

The opposition PDP had earlier asked a court to stop the exercise, citing breach of electoral guidelines.

The case is pending in court.

The Chairmen of Maru, Shinkafi, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara and Bakura local government areas were re-elected.

The state APC Chairman, Alhaji Lawali M. Liman, expressed satisfaction over the exercise, adding that the party had done well in the state and that the people had shown their appreciation in return.

The local government election in Zamfara held at a time the APC was battling  at the Supreme Court to reclaim all the seats it won during the national, state assembly, and governorship elections its members won but  later lost the mandates following an Appeal Court judgement.

In another development, an aspirant for the post of Speaker in the federal House of Representatives under the ruling APC has changed his mind.

The Member representing Wase Federal Constituency, Hon. Idris Ahmed Maje, has said he is now angling to become the deputy speaker instead of speaker. Prior to his decision to battle for the position of deputy speaker, Maje, a lawmaker from Plateau North Central, was among the lawmakers jostling for the position of speaker.

Maje explained that his respect for the decision of his party that zoned the speakership to the South West was the main reason he backed out from the race to be speaker.

He made this known yesterday through his Special Aide, Ishaq Yahuza Jama’are, during the closing ceremony of the 26th Annual National Seminar of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Jos.

Maje added that because he was a loyal party member and for avoidance of division among party members, it was good for him to drop his ambition of becoming speaker of the 9th assembly.

The APC had endorsed Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for the post of the Speaker, but other aspirants under the party declared interest for the post and may contest against the chosen candidate of the party.
