US Democratic presidential
candidate Bernie Sanders has pushed back on Vice President Joe Biden’s
claim that he is ready to endorse presumptive presidential nominee
Hillary Clinton.
"I've talked to Bernie. Bernie is going to endorse her," Biden reportedly told NPR's "Weekend Edition" on Thursday.
But hours later, Sanders appeared on MSNBC's "Up With Chris Hayes" and explained that his promise to help defeat presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and vote for Clinton did not amount to an endorsement.
"I talked to Joe, I think, was three weeks ago," said Sanders, referring to a meeting between the two men at the vice presidential residence. "Look, on that issue, we are trying to work with Secretary Clinton's campaign on areas that we can agree on."
"Is it just the case that you are never going to be in enough policy agreement with Hillary Clinton that you will never be in that position?" Hayes asked.
"Let me back it up by saying that I'm going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump," said Sanders.
During the interview, Sanders once again promoted his fight to add free public college tuition, universal health care, and other progressive goals to the Democratic platform.
Sanders’ emphasis on US income inequality and the influence of corporate money on elections and the government helped him attract million of voters to his campaign trail.
During an interview with CNN last week, the Vermont senator expressed his dissatisfaction with the US political process.
"I think the system has many, many flaws, but we knew what we were getting into," Sanders said, referring to his doubts about Clinton’s fair winning of nomination. "I'm not saying that they changed the rules. No, they didn't."
