Ekiti PDP, APC differ over Fayemi’s performance

THE Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, and its All Progressives Congress counterpart on Tuesday differed over of security and development in the state.

While the PDP said the insecurity and the parlous state of roads in parts of the state was due to alleged abandonment of responsibility by the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led APC government, the governing party said “some of the conditions that birthed the challenges in the state originated and were nurtured during the years of misrule by the PDP at the state and national levels.”

PDP State Chairman, Bisi Kolawole, said, “According to the constitution of Nigeria, the primary purpose of the government is to provide security of lives and property, as well as improve the welfare of the people. Unfortunately, the Fayemi administration has failed in both regards. This is unacceptable.

Kolawole, in a statement titled, ‘Pay attention to insecurity, fix failed roads, Kolawole charges Fayemi,’  by his media aide, Bola Agboola, stated, “Aside from failure to protect Ekiti residents, Fayemi’s government has failed in seeing to the people’s welfare as he has sacked close to 4,000 workers since he became governor in 2018.”

 “Absence of maintenance culture and nonchalant attitude of the present administration towards the comfort of the people has turned roads in the state to a dungeon.”

In response, the APC Public Relations Officer, Ade Ajayi, said, “The PDP indeed inflicted serious pains on the people while in power between 2014 and 2018 and the people must be constantly protected from the splintered party”.

Ajayi, in a statement, titled, ‘Only if Kolawole could pay attention to his party’s misfortune, APC …’, accused PDP of “deliberately turning their blind eyes and deaf ears to the incontrovertible fact that road construction and other infrastructural projects have been at the heart of Fayemi’s performance in Ekiti since he assumed office.”
