Aston Villa’s players, coaching staff and senior management have decided to defer 25% of their wages for four months to help the club during the financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aston Villa released a statement saying that with the contribution from the players and coaches the club will be able to pay the non-playing staff including the part-time workers their full salary.
The move follows the lead of other Premier League clubs such as Southampton and West Ham United who also announced wage deferrals for players since English football was suspended last month because of the pandemic.
Aston Villa concluded the statement by saying that there will be “no furloughing of staff” and the club will go through the rebuilding process using owners’ substantial funding.
