The robbery suspect, Sodiq Rasaq, according to the RRS, was arrested at the Ijede junction, Ikorodu, on Thursday while fleeing from the scene of robbery.
The suspect, in company with an accomplice, Quadri Yusuph, allegedly robbed a puff-puff seller around 5am and dispossessed him of N20,000 before fleeing.
They were said to have thereafter stabbed their victim in the hand twice with a knife when he challenged them.
The suspected robbers, having completed their mission, fled the scene before their victim could raise the alarm.
The victim, Ogbodo Chibuike, said, “Two young men on a motorcycle stopped me around 5am on the pretext that they wanted to buy puff-puff; because they were of my age, I didn’t suspect anything. They bought N200 worth of puff-puff.
“They refused to pay me; I challenged them and they alighted from the motorcycle and stabbed me and took my wallet containing N20,000.
“I had to call for help when they stabbed me with a knife. It was my noise that attracted people. Because they were on a motorcycle, those who came to my aid couldn’t chase after them but some RRS officers on patrol chased after them and caught up with them at the Ijede junction and arrested one of them, while the other escaped.”
The suspect confessed to the police that that was their second operation for the day.
Similarly, a suspected cable thief, Peter Abah, 32, was arrested around Mobolaji Johnson Road, Ikeja, with the electric cables concealed in a wheelbarrow.
The suspect, who was released from the Badagry Prison in December 2018 after serving a jail term for stealing solar panels, told the police that he along with two others, now at large, cut the cables from a newly-installed transformer in the area.
Abah said, “We were three. We cut the cables from a transformer. We climbed the electric pole before removing the cables.
“I was just unlucky. My colleagues’ names are Godwin and Zuma. We all connived to cut the cables and we knew we could make something out of it to augment our salaries.”
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Mu’azu Zubairu, directed that the fleeing suspects must be arrested and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, for further investigation.
