From NCPN to APP, from there to PDP then to APC, and back to PDP before the 2019 governorship election.
It’s been speculated again that the former minister under the Peoples’ Democratic Party is considering coming back to the ruling All Progressive Congress, he denied it, saying it’s a rumour.
His Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, according to The Punch, maintained that the governor’s recent to President Muhammadu Buhari was meant to update the President on the security situation in the state.
Akase said the visit was not about the governor returning to the APC as being insinuated in some quarters.
“We wish to categorically state that Governor Ortom has no reason and no plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party.
“As the leader of the party in the state, the governor enjoys a robust relationship with other PDP leaders and members at the state and national levels.
“The Benue people have also indicated clearly from the results of the last general elections that the PDP remains their preferred political party. Governor Ortom always stands with his people and this, he will continue to do.
“We wish to advise those spreading the rumour and misleading the people to know that President Buhari is not an APC President. He is the President of the whole Nigeria across party divides. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the country’s Armed Forces and receives periodic briefings from state governors and other stakeholders.
“Governor Ortom’s visit to the Presidential Villa was, therefore, to discuss state matters, particularly to give the President an update on the security situation in his state and the efforts the government is making to guarantee peace in all parts of the state as well as its borders with other states such as Taraba and Ebonyi.
“Politics is over. It is now time for governance to ensure that development gets to the people. We advise those making unfounded speculations and fanning embers of discord to allow Governor Ortom and President Buhari to synergise where possible and concentrate on strategising to ensure the security of lives and property as well as the general welfare of the people,” The Punch quoted him as saying.
Ortom was the State Publicity Secretary for National Centre Party of Nigeria, he joined All People’s Party(APP) where he became the State Treasurer. Again, he jumped to PDP and rose to become State Secretary before becoming State Deputy Chairman in Benue State.

He was also Director of Operations of the PDP gubernatorial campaign in Benue State in 2007 and Director of Administration and Logistics of the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organization in 2011.
Ortom was PDP National Auditor before his appointment as a Minister until April 2015, when he joined APC again as a result of his failure to secure the governorship ticket under PDP. He won at the polls.
Again, things fell apart between him and some top echelon of APC, he returned to PDP and won reelection.
Recalled that he denied similar rumour ahead of 2018 before he finally returned to PDP.
