Saraki, who is currently under investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on alleged case of conspiracy, abuse of office, misappropriation of public funds, theft and money laundering while he was governor of Kwara state from 2003 to 2011, may have put the National Assembly under the anti-graft agency’s microscope.
It was gathered that the EFCC has invited and quizzed the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, over the financial dealings of the National Assembly.
According to THE NATION, apart from demanding records of the financial dealings of the National Assembly, the anti-corruption agency also questioned Sani-Omolori on the inauguration of the Ninth National Assembly.
It also learnt from a competent source at the National Assembly said the Clerk was invited on Tuesday to the headquarters of EFCC in Abuja and questioned for about six hours – from 11 a.m to 5 p.m.
The source noted that apart from the initial questions on records of financial dealings of the National Assembly, Sani-Omolori was also queried about the method of election of the presiding officers of the Ninth National Assembly.
Contacted, a source in the EFCC confirmed Sani-Omolori’s interrogation by the anti-crime agency.
The source, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment on the issue, said the clerk visited the commission on Tuesday.
THE NATION also learnt that the EFCC seized Sani-Omolori’s international passport.
It was also gathered that other key officials of the National Assembly, including the Clerk of the Senate, Clerk of the House of Representatives as well as their deputies, may be invited by the EFCC for questioning.
Meanwhile, the EFCC which may be on the hunt of principal officers in the eight assembly has also gone ahead to seal off multiple residential properties located in Ikoyi area of Lagos and said to be belong to Bukola Saraki.
Saraki has quickly approached the Federal High Court in Abuja by filing two separate fundamental human rights enforcement suit and on Tuesday, the judge ruled in his favour as it restrained EFCC, ICPC, DSS, Police and other anti-corruption agency from investigating his corrupt dealings.
But, there are mounting speculations if the court order restraining the EFCC will stop the agency from continuance of its probe of the senate president.
