It was tough on Liverpool, so very tough. They played well before folding and missed big chances of their own and not least after falling to that third goal when Mohamed Salah struck a post.
Reducing the deficit then with a vital away goal could have made the world of difference. Instead the Champions League Final feels a world away in a season that could end so harshly for Liverpool.
It was frantic. It was fantastic. It was end-to-end and back again – and twice as quickly - with Messi setting off on run after mesmeric, panic-inducing run and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané quickly countering for Liverpool. What a speed it was played at.
