Emir of Kano, Mohammed Sanusi
• Miyetti Allah Calls For Govt Intervention In Niger Clashes
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has warned Muslim clerics in the country to stop turning their mosques into political podium, preaching hate messages among Nigerians, rather than the word of God.
The royal father gave the warning in his sermon at the ultra modern mosque of the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State at the weekend, when he led the first Friday prayers in the mosque, after inaugurating it. The inauguration of the mosque was one of the activities to mark the 26th convocation and 34th anniversary of the establishment of the university.
He told Muslim faithful, especially clerics, it was unfortunate some of them were hiding under the sanctity and immunity of holy places to set one part of the society against the other, saying this was totally against Islamic tenets.
“Muslim clerics and, indeed all Muslims should preach peace among the adherents and work to achieve peace with members of other religions,” he said, urging Muslims all over the country to unite and forge a common front for the propagation of the religion and the country.
Emir Sanusi also called for religious tolerance among members of the two major religions in the country describing it as the panacea for peace in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Miyetti Allah Association in Niger State, Mallam Muhammad Abubakar Tukur, has appealed to the state government to urgently intervene in the continued clashes between the Fulani herdsmen and Gbagyis in the state.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Minna at weekend, Tukur said this has become necessary sequel to continued clashes that has resulted in loss of lives on both sides.
He confirmed that no fewer than14 Fulani herdsmen have been killed in the recent clashes between them and regretted that they have been living together peacefully, wondering what went wrong.
The Sarkin Fulani listed some of the villages, where such clashes have been claiming lives, to include Gunu, Lambata and Sabon Daga.
