Donald Trump’s chances of winning the US presidential election are fading as a new poll shows him trailing Hillary Clinton by 11 points with just over three weeks until Election Day.
Clinton, the Democratic nominee, has the support of 48 percent of likely voters, while Trump, the Republican nominee, has 37 percent support, the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found.
Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has 7 percent support among likely voters, while Green Party nominee Jill Stein has 2 percent support.
Trump appears to be in freefall after last week’s release of a 2005 audiotape of Trump's lewd comments about touching and kissing women without their consent.
"Donald Trump's chances of winning this election have faded," says Democratic pollster Fred Yang of Hart Research Associates, which conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff and his firm Public Opinion Strategies.
"This poll is showing the writing on the wall," Yang adds.
Trump "is in a weaker position than in September," McInturff observed, adding that his numbers in the poll don't align with anyone who has won a presidential election.
A video from 2005 emerged last week that shows Trump bragging about groping women and making unwanted advances.
Trump's campaign has been scrambling to recover from the release of the video.
While the New York real estate magnate has said the comments he made in the video was just talk and he had never behaved in that way, more than a dozen women have gone public with allegations of sexual harassment against him going back more than 30 years.
National opinion polls have shown that female voters have been turning against Trump in large numbers, putting his campaign in jeopardy.
Trump is also facing widespread defections from Republicans after his lewd comments were revealed.
Congress members, particularly those facing tough re-election battles, quickly disavowed Trump, and many said they would not vote for him at all.
