A Bosnian court has sentenced seven people to a total of more than 12 years in jail for colluding with the Daesh militant group in Syria and for illegally owning weapons.
The court said Monday that the seven were found guilty of joining Deash Takfiris between 2013 and 2014.
Each person received a sentence ranging from one year to three years.
More than 150 people have left Bosnia for Syria to fight for various groups that the United Nations has branded as terrorist organizations.
Intelligence agencies say the number of people leaving Bosnia to fight in Syria or Iraq has dropped significantly since authorities introduced jail terms two years ago for those who fight in foreign wars.
Of the 130 Bosnian citizens who had previously left, nearly 50 reportedly died in battles.
This is while Daesh militants have been carrying out heinous atrocities in Syria, Iraq and Libya in past years.
In the areas under their control people of all religions and ethnic groups have been suffering.
The United Nations has documented the sufferings that civilians are enduring in terrorist-held territories.
Daesh's "depraved, cowardly strategy is to attempt to use the presence of civilians to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations," UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein said in a statement on Friday.
He said the terrorists are “effectively using tens of thousands of women, men and children as human shields.”
