Police in the US State of Texas have fatally shot a woman who is said to have gunned down her two young daughters.
Law enforcement officers in a Houston area say the incident happened about 5 p.m. Friday in front of a home on the fringe of the Houston suburb of Fulshear.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said the woman’s motive was still unclear, but it appeared that the shooting happened after a family argument.
Nehls said the two younger women had already been shot when a Fulshear police officer arrived and saw the mother with a gun in her hand, apparently preparing to shoot one of her daughters once more, AP reported.
The officer shot and killed the woman. No identities have been released.
Maryland Shooting
Meanwhile, an assailant has killed three people and injured two others in the State of Maryland.
Police say one of the wounded is in critical condition. A massive manhunt is now underway for the shooter.
This is the latest in a series of recent deadly shootings across the US.
Recently, a group of Democrats in the US House of Representatives staged a sit-in on the House floor to garner support for a bipartisan bill on gun-control in the wake of the country’s deadliest shooting in Orlando, Florida, earlier this month, where dozens of people were gunned down in a shooting spree.
Yet, the Republican-controlled Congress has snubbed efforts of the administration of US President Barack Obama to tighten gun laws.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms are the cause of death for more than 33,000 people in the United States every year, a number that includes accidental discharge, murder, and suicides.
It is estimated that there are between 270 million and 300 million guns in the US, about one per person, according to the New York Daily News.
