Three body parts - including a foot and a head- found in a homeowner's recycling bin belong to a mother-of-three who was reported missing on Saturday morning, Seattle police have said.
Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O'Toole said that John Robert Charlton, 37, had been arrested and that the human remains are those of Ingrid Lyne, 40, who works as a nurse in Seattle.
Investigators said there is "no reason to believe that there's any question of the victim's identity", but the coroner's office still needs to confirm the woman's identity.
Friends of Lyne said they last saw her Friday afternoon and that she had planned to go on a date to a Seattle Mariners baseball game Friday night with someone she met online.
It is unclear which dating site Lyne was using when she met Charlton.
Lyne's ex-husband, who she divorced in 2014, raised the alarm when he showed up at her home the next morning to drop off their daughters and found the house empty.
Police don't believe there are any other suspects, Ms O'Toole said. A homeowner in Seattle called police at 4pm on Saturday after discovering the body parts.Charlton is being held in jail but hasn't been charged.
Police say the body parts had been packaged in plastic bags and placed in the bin sometime late Friday or on Saturday.
Police previously described the remains as fresh. They said they had searched other bins in the area and found nothing of note. Police are still searching for Lyne's vehicle, a grey 2015 Toyota Highlander with Washington state license plates.
Charlton's criminal history includes convictions for misdemeanour assault in 1997 and misdemeanour battery in 2009. He was also arrested for theft in 2009.
Lyne's friends were struggling to believe what had happened to her.
"It's just wrong; it was just so wrong," longtime friend Nicole Rock told Fox. "Why did he do this? And why did he put her in pieces?" Ms Rock asked. "To think about their kids, and they need their mom. Kids, they need a mum."
