LOVE rats now have a smartphone app to help them hide their cheating ways. The £3 Cate — Call And Text Eraser — lets them keep messages from lovers invisible to their partner. It works through a secret pin number that allows them to continue texting without fear of being rumbled. Cheating celebs, like singer Ronan Keating, 35, have been caught out through illicit messages. Unlike other apps on the market the Cate icon does not appear on the phone’s screen. No evidence of incriminating texts can be found because only the love cheat can read the messages using a personal number. And if a suspicious spouse comes into a room when messages are being read, a shake of the phone will make them disappear. The privacy app has already been downloaded 10,000 times on Android and will be available on iPhones within weeks. Although Cate is a privacy app it can be used in reverse by suspicious partners. They can secretly download it on to their partner’s mobile and compile a record of texts and calls if they suspect them. Entrepreneur Neal Desai, 25, got £44,000 funding from Shark Tank — the US version of BBC 2’s Dragons’ Den — to develop the idea. The student from Boston originally bought the software from a Miami cop. He created it after the wife of a colleague found out about his affair by reading phone texts. Mr Desai admitted Cate could be used by criminals to hide their activities — but insisted it could also help governments and companies. He added: “As with every technology that involves privacy, there’s good and bad. “But it is labelled a privacy application and could have uses for government officials, businesses, or lawyers whose entire business is based on keeping things confidential.” Some 70 per cent of Cate buyers have been women. Business partner Jay Leopardi said this could be because females wanted to protect themselves from jealous spouses.
